The evaluation of the proposals was conducted in December 2013. Out of the 38 received proposals 25 were rated by independent evaluators being of high quality, meeting all requirements of the open call and passing all evaluation criteria.

The evaluation panel prioritized the high quality proposals according to the requirements of the XIFI open call enabling XIFI to enter negotiations with the top ranked proposals. As a result the XIFI federation is expected to expand to several new countries, like Belgium, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, and Switzerland, in addition to the existing broad European coverage.

Considering the very specific requirements of the XIFI open call, the project is pleased that among the top ranked proposals there are three that originated from industry, including one that was submitted by an SME, and one by an industry association. The majority however originated from NRENs and well positioned academic institutions, but that was expected and is due to the nature of the call, the role of XIFI in the FI-PPP and the expected contributions.
